DOL/OSHA schedules conference on Latino worker safety and health

Following a Labor Day announcement from Secretary Hilda Solis, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will convene a National Action Summit for Latino Worker Health and Safety, April 14-15 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston. The conference is co-sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and will bring together workers and representatives from employer associations, labor unions, the faith community, community organizations, the medical community, safety and health professionals, educators, government officials, Consulates, the entertainment community and other non-traditional partners.

OSHA fines Danvers, Mass., construction contractor $136,000 for asbestos hazards at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed $136,000 in fines against William A. Berry & Son Inc., a Danvers, Mass., construction contractor, for 19 alleged violations of workplace health and safety standards while removing asbestos-containing material at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Mass., last September.

OSHA levies $147,000 in fines to ABC Professional Tree Service Inc. in Cleveland for risks to workers

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited ABC Professional Tree Service Inc. in Cleveland with alleged violations of federal workplace safety and health standards. Proposed fines total $147,000. OSHA began an inspection in September 2009 after receiving allegations of workers being exposed to high-voltage power lines while trimming trees without having proper personnel flagging traffic around the tree trimming vehicles.
