Survey shows two-thirds of U.S. workforce worried about 2010 stress and workload

The majority of U.S. workers report a worried outlook for 2010 in terms of job stress and workload, according to a Tell It Now(SM) poll released by ComPsych Corporation on February 23. Roughly three in every four employees identified they are very to somewhat worried what 2010 will bring.

"Following an economically trying year, many workers have weathered layoffs and budget cuts in addition to the normal, first-quarter spike in stress levels," says Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, chairman and CEO of ComPsych. "We're receiving an exceptionally high volume of requests related to managing stress, whether through workplace training or through personal counseling."

Employees were asked: "How is your outlook for 2010, in terms of job stress and workload?" Thirty-four percent claimed to be very worried, while 40 percent said they were somewhat worried and 26 percent said they were not worried at all.

"Employers should take this opportunity to support employees, especially those who have taken on additional work," Dr. Chaifetz added. "This can be accomplished by promoting benefits such as employee assistance and work-life programs, and helping employees develop their stress-management skills through workplace classes led by professional counselors."
